About Jason
Jason G Lane is a bassist, keyboardist, and DJ, currently residing in Northern New York. Jason comes from a musical family and began performing professionally on electric bass in various groups from 1998 onward. He was awarded a position in the Georgia All State Jazz ensemble in 1999, and received the Louis Armstrong Jazz award in 1999 and 2000. He was awarded a music scholarship from Valdosta State University in South Georgia and began studying classical and jazz music under Todd Markey. Around this time, Jason was recommended to a local band leader and began playing with Nightfire, led by Barry Best.
Jason joined the US Army Band in 2002 and completed his musical training requirements three months early. During the early Army years, Jason played bass in a wide variety of ensembles. This included jazz combos, rock groups, polka bands, big bands, and even a rockabilly trio. Jason was always seeking new musical experiences and from 2003 to 2007 played with Orchestra Sabor del Caribe, the Marshall Ruffin Band, the Amazing Phantastix, and the Locomotivee Jazz Quartet.
In 2009, Jason deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the unique mission of bringing music to soldiers stationed at forward operating bases all over the country. His group, Sunburn, performed the music of Tool, Radiohead, and Muse almost exclusively as they traveled through hostile territory with an equally hostile climate. Sunburn was a highly successful group featured by Army Band Leadership as a model of success.
Today, Jason is available as a freelance bassist and keyboardist in the Watertown, NY area. He also teaches music lessons and performs as a DJ with a unique style based around the fusion of electronic dance music and jazz fusion.
